Base Coat Clear Coat Paint Defined
Vehicle manufacturers began using base coat clear coat paint in the late 1980s to the mid 1990s. It puts the color of the paint in a base coat but has no shine. Then you apply a clear coat over the color to give it a shine and depth. The benefits are a stronger paint that resists oxidation and allows for matching the original paint by color and quality. The thickness of the clear allows for a final wet sanding and polishing to maximize the shine. It comes with a two year warranty against flaking, fading and oxidation.
Single Stage Urethane Paint Defined
Single stage urethane paint jobs use a single color layer of paint that has a gloss without the need of a clear coat. This system of painting was used until the 1980s to 1990s for factory paint jobs. Urethane paint was made available for auto paint about the same time, making it possible to use this system and get a better stronger paint job than what was available from the factory before the 1990s. It carries a two year warranty against flaking and fading and is our most popular complete paint service.
